Versatile actor Kamal Haasan and evergreen actress Sridevi’s ‘Sadma’, released in 1983, was a blockbuster. The latest update is that actors Kareena Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are likely to star in Sadma remake.
Actress Kareena Kapoor will reprise Sridevi’s role, the specially-abled Nehalata and Ranveer Singh will play Kamal Haasan’s Sommu, according to a Deccan Chronicle report.
However, an official confirmation is awaited regarding the same. Audience and critics are considering this as a mere speculation.
Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor will produce the movie and remaining details are likely to be announced when the film go on floors. There were reports that ad filmmaker Liyod Baptista is planning to remake the movie and is not in rush as he did not want to spoil the essence of the movie.
“We are in brief talks with some A-list actors because it is going to be hard to replace Kamal Haasan and Sridevi,” he told DNA. He further said that he will make some modifications to the script to suit the tastes of modern audience.
‘Sadma’ was directed by Balu Mahendra, which is a remake of the 1982 of Balu Mahendra’s own Tamil movie ‘Moondram Pirai’. Ilayaraja composed the music.
Kamal’s Haasan’s performance won him the National Award in the Tamil original. The movie is all about a young man, Nehalata (played by Sridevi) who suffers a head injury after a car crash. Kamal Haasan, a lonely school teacher rescues her when she was tapped in a brothel house.
Few days back, reports revealed that Kareena Kapoor has been hearing some scripts and ‘Sadma’ remake is on cards. She is showing interest on three scripts, the remake of Sadma, a biopic on eminent Gandhian, a freedom fighter and social activist Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, and the third is Milan Luthria’s Baadshahoo.
On the other hand, Ranveer Singh and Kareena Kapoor are currently busy with their forthcoming movies. Kareena Kapoor is waiting for the release of ‘Ki and Ka’, scheduled to release on April 1.
Ranveer Singh is shooting for ‘Befikre’ in Paris alongside Vaani Kapoor.
